Perfecting Print with the PDF Preflight Acrobat Plugin 

A major publishing house faced challenges in ensuring the print readiness of their PDF files before production. Using an expensive preflight tool for a limited number of checks was uneconomical. Manual preflighting was a labour-intensive process prone to oversight, costly errors, and delays in print runs, so it was not considered an option. A limited scope of preflight features to check colour space discrepancies, missing fonts, and adherence to press-ready preflight profiles would help cover any quality issues.

Our custom Acrobat plugin emerged as the solution to the publishing house’s PDF preflighting challenges. The plugin offered a suite of preflighting tools to check PDF files for potential problems meticulously. From detecting RGB/CMYK colour space or SPOT colour conflicts, to identifying missing fonts and ensuring compliance with press-ready preflight profiles and Acrobat Compatibility standards, the plugin provided errors and warnings in the print preparation process.

Production teams could now preflight PDF files quickly and specify presets that allowed them to catch and correct potential issues before they escalated into costly print errors. The proactive and custom approach reduced rework and production delays and enhanced the overall consistency of printed materials, allowing them to keep delivering exceptional print products within the client’s budget.
